The Minnesota Judicial Branch has recently made several updates to its MyMNConservator (MMC) online application, a tool used by conservators to file inventory and annual accountings electronically. Originally launched in 2014, MMC is designed to simplify the reporting process for conservators and improve transparency and accuracy in managing finances for individuals under conservatorship. The latest updates were released as part of the Advancement of MN Vulnerable Adult Care Project, which is funded by a grant from the Administration for Community Living, a division of the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
What changes can you expect?
A Streamlined MMC Landing Page
The landing page of the MMC platform has been redesigned to make important notifications more visible and accessible. This means conservators can now quickly see relevant updates and alerts as soon as they log in, helping them stay on top of their responsibilities.
Enhanced Conservator Profiles
The Conservator Profile page has been reorganized to simplify the process of setting up notifications. This update makes it easier for conservators to configure email alerts and introduces a new option for text message notifications. Now, conservators can receive reminders via text, ensuring they never miss an important report deadline.
An Improved Conservator Dashboard
The dashboard has received several updates to improve clarity and usability:
- On the Person Subject to Conservatorship page, a note has been added to clarify that selecting the name of the person will display the entire history of reports associated with that individual.
- Reports are now sorted in a more logical order, appearing in the sequence they were submitted, making it easier to track reporting history.
- The previous “Reports” tab has been renamed to Reports to Work On, making it immediately clear which reports need to be addressed based on upcoming due dates.
Better Organization of Income & Expense Transactions
The layout for Income & Expense Transactions has been revised to follow a more intuitive flow. Now, when entering a transaction, the system first asks for the type of transaction (e.g., income, expense, or transfer) before requesting specific details like date, description, and amount. This structured format makes it easier for conservators to input financial information accurately.
Emergency Conservator Report Adjustments
Emergency conservators now have more precise guidance for their reporting requirements. The MMC system will:
- Automatically calculate and display the correct start and end dates for annual reports when the first-year accounting period includes an emergency reporting timeframe.
- Automatically determine if a Final Account report is required when there is a transition from an emergency conservator to a general conservator.
Enhanced Digital Accessibility
The MMC platform has been updated to comply with the WCAG 2.1 (Level A and AA) standards, making it more accessible to users with disabilities. These improvements ensure that all users, regardless of their physical capabilities, can navigate and use the platform effectively.
Miscellaneous Enhancements and Bug Fixes
In addition to the major updates listed above, the MMC platform has also implemented minor enhancements and resolved several bugs to ensure a smoother user experience.
Why Are These Changes Important?
These updates are designed to enhance usability, reduce confusion, and streamline the process for conservators, ensuring that they can manage their fiduciary duties more efficiently. By making the system more intuitive and transparent, the Minnesota Judicial Branch continues its commitment to protecting the interests of vulnerable adults and supporting those who manage their financial affairs.
